This large landscape work of art consists of 69 terrazzo ‘pearls’ and a shell-shaped terrazzo fountain. They have an underground construction to keep them in place and are connected by pieces of rope with an iron connector, to serve as the string. The whole construction has been officially approved as safe playground equipment.
Madeleine Berkhemer originally designed a gigantic pearl necklace for the landscaping department of the municipality of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It is an ornament in the monumental city park near the iconic Euromast and decorative playground equipment for visiting children and their families.
Lost Pearls can be adapted in (terrazzo) colour and size for a second and third edition (limited).
